What kind of shelter is the Twinn Tarp and who is it for?
The Twinn Tarp is a minimalist open shelter for ultralight purists. If you're counting grams and comfortable in open shelters, this is the one.
Does the Twinn Tarp offer bug protection?
No, it's an open tarp. It does include bug net loops at each end so you can pair it with a separate bug net for full insect coverage.
What is a catenary cut and why does it matter?
A catenary cut uses a slightly curved ridgeline rather than a flat one. This reduces wind disturbance, improves rain deflection, and sheds a bit of weight compared to a straight-cut design. It also makes for a tighter, faster pitch.
What poles do I need?
The Twinn Tarp works with best with our LT5 Trekking Poles. Recommended heights are 118 cm at the head and 81cm at the foot for the standard pitch.
How waterproof is the Twinn Tarp?
ClearSkies™ is Gossamer Gear's custom shelter fabric: It combines 15D PFAS-free recycled Robic nylon with a 20D dope-dyed ripstop grid for exceptional durability, UV stability, and tear resistance at its weight. An advanced silicone and PU coating (1200 mm) fully seals the fabric and creates an extremely hydrophobic surface that shakes off morning dew with ease.
This formulation also delivers a hydrostatic head rating of 4,923 mm—surpassing the average water resistance of a three-season tent and nearly matching the 5,000 mm standard of heavy-duty mountaineering shelters. It provides 2.35 times the water resistance of previous Gossamer Gear iterations while maintaining the same ultralight weight.
What's included with the Twinn Tarp?
The tarp with line pre-attached and a stuff sack. Stakes are not included.

Took the twin tarp on a 2 nighter and it was amazing how much lighter it was to carry. It was nice that the tarp was already set up to use upon delivery, the Guy lines came installed and the seams were already sealed. Paired the tarp with a Yama Y-zip Bivy and it wasn’t a hassle to set it up.

Survived a Huge Thunderstorm under my Twinn Tarp! The very first night I was using my new Twinn Tarp (Sept 2025) in the California mountains, we found ourselves in a dramatic lightening and thundershower storm that lasted all night long. FYI my buddy's "CO-OP" equipment failed that night and he had to join me under my Twinn Tarp. We both survived the night and stayed dry to enjoy a couple of great sunny days to follow. Thanks Gossamer "Gang". Bob Sheehan

first of all, just the change of having something super compact and weighing nearly nothing automatically feels less stressful. pretty intuitive to set up but i did play around with the width to get a good angle and reduce condensation (and will probably tinker more for different seasons)

Tarp is very light and roomy. More of a 1-person shelter if you are tall.

Holds up well in wind and rain. You can’t beat this price for this size of an ultralight tarp

This tarp is beautifully made. No loose strings, no missing stitches, seam taped correctly and all corners and stress points well reinforced with professional stitching. Just what you would expect from Gossamer Gear. I just received it and I am very pleased. I can't wait to see how it performs. The Twinn Tarp weighed in at 9.75 ounces on my scale. Rainmaker

Old faithful from the PCT desert section Did a thousand miles with this bad boy. This is literally all you need for the PCT desert section; cowboy it and have this nuclear option in your back pocket. I love this thing and have done multiple trips with it. Alas however for my old friend...it was hung up taught to dry when two dogs illegally off leash ran into it at terrific speed, ripping it down the seam, the mirror crackd from side to side. I would've taken it into Oregon and beyond. Buy this.

Great if you are after a lightweight option I use the Twinn Tarp together with the Yama Bug Bivy and this a great combination if you want to go lightweight. I really like the quality and pre-attached tie outs - super simple to use. There are some considerations that you should make when buying the product: I used it in the hot summer when I was just sleeping under tarp and could do everything else outside. Here it is a perfect match. I also used it for Tour de Mont Blanc in September when nights were freezing. During the night the tarp builds up condensation and it starts slightly sagging. Not a big problem - just be aware. The bigger issue for me was the lack of comfort in the morning when it was still around freezing temperature: you cannot sit under the tarp (due to the low height and wet ceiling) and change clothes or pack your stuff. This all needs to be done in the cold where everything around you is also wet. This is when you ask yourself if a tent would be more appropriate. Verdict: a really, really nice product but know what you wish for.

Great Tarp I really like this tarp. It packs up small. Very lightweight. My shopping experience with this company has been great as well!

Great for the weight and space. May be the best option out there for 2 people. It is small and compact and of course light AF! Never got me or my gear wet in any condition. The one draw back for me was that the curve makes the interior height fixed and it is fairly low, so on days I needed to in the shelter bc of inclement weather it was not super comfy to sit up fully. Apart from that worth every penny and more. great for folks trying to keep their base weight low. I would also like to point out for anyone considering the solo over the twinn, just get the twinn. the extra couple of ounces are so worth the added room and make it easier to stay out of the elements when the wind blows.

Great ultralight Tarp Loved this as a light option for milder weather. Used in mountains with hiking pole and stakes. Quick setup, and gives good coverage for 1 or 2 people. So easy to setup. I am cutting down my pack wt and this tarp is so simple to use. Used in mountains of Colorado. Would be slightly harder to use at high elevations if ground is very hard- stakes are key to setup. S

Lightweight, easy setup, perfect! Not much else to add the that. Just right for one on a rainy night on the open plains of western Nebraska. Thanks for a great tarp!

Twinn Tarp Used it for a single person, kept me dry during the three wettest nights of my 4043, years of backcountry experience. Only downside is that it has a huge footprint that severely limits where you can set it up.

Exceeded My Expectations I received my tarp about 2 weeks ago and got it out on to Furnace Mountain this weekend. I used the tarp, with some extra line attached to a couple of the existing lines (it comes ready to set up on the ground right out of the bag...just add stakes and trekking poles or trees). Now I have a 10.7 oz (I added the line and 2 carabiners) versatile ground or hammock shelter. It doesn't get any better than that.

So glad I bought this, can’t wait to use it I’ve wanted to try tarp camping for years. Finally pulled the trigger during the holiday sale. Amazing quality. Stitches are even, tie-outs are well enforced, and the grommets for trekking poles have plenty of material supporting them, so tear outs under tension shouldn’t be a problem. Sets up easy compared to some, I was about to get a taut, perfect pitch in less than 3 minutes my first try Tent is spacious. I’ve yet to sleep under it, and just pitched it in the yard, but more room you could ever need solo. Duo is probably adequate, but we all know how sleep capacity works in the ultralight world lol. On my scale the tarp, cordage, and stuff sack came out to 9.5oz. Pitched with 8 titanium shepard hook stakes that weighed 1.7 oz total. Factor in maybe 1.5 for a polycro groundsheet and you’ve got a complete shelter that will sleep two for 12.7 ounces. Could probably even save more weight if you stepped down to smaller cordage and left the stuff sack at home, but at that point you’re REALLY nit-picking. I looked into the MLD tarp as well. Gossamer gear was not only larger in total surface area, it weighed less, and cost less at retail (not to mention the sale). Only real downside was a lower denier fabric, but nothing about this tarp makes me doubt it’s durability.

Excellent Tarp I've owned my Twinn Tarp for a few years now and have put around 4,000 miles on it. Combined with a bivy it has been an excellent minimalist shelter that has keep me dry and protected without fail. Highly recommend for thru hikers looking to go light. Roomy and easy to pitch.

Roomy The Twinn Trarp is a winner. Super lightweight and more than enough room for 2. During a recent severe rain storm I pitched it low to the ground, both my son and myself stayed dry. Very well made and a great price. I highly recommend it. Thx Gossamer Gear.

Best bikepacking shelter For the last decade I’ve carried a Big Agnes Fly Creek tent (2.2 lbs) on my biking adventures. By pairing the twin tarp with an ultralight bivy bag I shed over a pound. The bivy hangs from the tarp’s loops, keeping me and all my gear safe from the elements.

Twinn Tarp A first time tarp user and ALL the reviews I read before purchasing were true. Top quality and no better tarp to start with because its ease of use in all the situations I've encountered so far and many more to come.

Tarp town Love my new tarp, added some length to the guy lines to use over my hammock.

All around solid Overall, it is perfect for what it is designed for. Lightweight, easy to set up, sturdy setup even in wind. Spacious enough for 2 6 ft+ people and some gear. Only done 5 nights in it so far, but the material seems quite durable. Also makes for an aesthetically pleasing campsite - it is a good looking tarp. Part of me wishing I bought one that is more versatile, but I can't knock it on the review because that's not what it's designed for. It hasn't rained one me yet, but I have a feeling i'd rather be in it solo than with another person in a storm.

Nice compliment to cowboy camping Compact with a very easy set up. I can’t emphasize enough how fast and easy the set up is. I cowboy camp whenever possible so having this as my weather protection on an if needed basis is perfect

Excellent tarp I got this tarp 3 days ago and have only used it for one night. It was quite windy and we had a bit of rain and the tarp held up great. I can already say that this is a superb tarp. It's very easy to pitch with trekking poles, the linelocs are a big help. It's super lightweight and yet sturdy. For 1 person it's a palace, for 2 persons it's big enough. The small pack size is great too and the price is very fair. Highly recommended!

Twin tarp with vestibule. Ex Sierra mountain guide I bought the twin tarp years ago and added a high side vestibule/doors/extra storage space which makes it amazing. In rain and also high winds and cold conditions place the whole tarp right to ground and it’s like having a total protection full tent. Glenn make this addition to the twin!!!!! It’s a total winner. Set up either six inches from ground all around or right to ground for storm it’s the lightest most versatile and storm proof device there is. And incredibly light even for two.

Twinn Tarp This is a great tarp with one exception. The cat cut on the ridgeline is too deep. I think it would work just as well with a more shallow cat cut thereby giving more room under the tarp, especially when two people are using it. The head room drops down very quickly from the head end to the foot. Still a great tarp for one person.

Just in time I recently received my Twinn tarp and had a chance to use it last weekend. I had just reached my campsite when the skies opened up and started to dump on me. I quickly set up my tarp ( bit of a hack job if I say so myself) and sat out the storm in comfort and most importantly, dry. Even though I did a terrible job setting it up, it worked great. Thanks for the awesome product.

Twinn tarp This tarp sets up like a DREAM right out of the box! Went instantly into my pack! Big enough for two. Very roomy for one. I use my nano bug net underneath by running a ridge line with loops inside. Put my umbrella at one end for a wind block. Perfect!!

Works Like a Champ! I just completed an AT thru-hike using this tarp paired with a big bivy. It performed perfectly, with plenty of canvas to buffer less-than-optimal campsite selection. I swapped the front ridge guyout with a different color to better orient it during set up. I did have my worries about the 7D fabric at first, but the tarp came home free of holes and snags. It hasn’t seen snow yet, but it’s been dumped on and blown around many many times. The cut of this tarp makes for a wrinkle-free pitch every time. It’s a great value, don’t hesitate to purchase one.

Awesome so far I used this tarp once so far this season. It was perfect with my bivy and I love the loops inside to connect the shock cord, keeping the bivy off of my face. During the trip I pulled it out quickly to make quick shelter for myself and the group I was with, we waited out the storm and stayed dry. This tarp drys out really quick after rain, I don’t see myself buying another brand tarp anytime soon and this has shown me the quality of gear GG provides.

Light, great price, and roomy. I got the tarp for a month long, backcountry fishing trip I am taking through Montana and Idaho this summer. I have already used it in the wind rain and it held up well. A little tip though. Get some good shock/compression cord and tie 6 inch loops on all four corners of the tarp. This helps with annoying sag in wet and windy conditions.
Derick M. 5/5
Twinn Tarp Love it so far. incredibly light for full coverage. However i do not see a bug net option to hook onto the tabs with? what can it be compatible with?
Paxton 5/5
No brainer Great Price, Freaking palace of space. Packs stupid small. Just buy it. Honestly impressed that this shelter isnt way more popular by now. Only thing i could possibly say negative is simply being a sil its stretchy and absorbs some moisture in rain. But its also 10million $ cheaper than cuben.
Joshua J. 5/5
Perfect for me Large, light, and well made. I can pitch my bug bivy, set up my Helinox chair, and cook in the rain while staying dry.

Twin Tarp Great bit of Kit, heaps of room for one, could easily fit two. Packs up super small and light.

Great stuff! Crazy light! Crazy awesome! I have only taken it out once on a little over nighter but was great! Can't wait for many more adventures with this thing! And the customer service is top notch👌
